Description

Dunno about you, but I was at 54° 28' 55.5456'' N, 3° 13' 9.3792'' W, According to my GPS

This is the summit of a mountain in the lake district called 'Great Gable'. It is exactly 101 meters too short of 1000 meters in altitude, a fact which is apparent because at the 9 oclock position, disappearing into the clouds (or rather, not, because it's disappeared into the clouds), you can (not) see an actual mountain - Scafell Pike, which is about 80 meters taller.

It's a nice place to stop and think. True, you're not at the highest point you can see, but in some ways, it's better. It's a lot quieter and the wind isn't as bad. The view is much better; the contrast provided by features both higher and lower than you are give you a sense of scale. Though you are but a dot in this excessively large landscape, you are important to it. Just because you're not at a high point, doesn't mean you're not on top.

How this image was made:
1) A complete 360x180 degree panorama including the sky and floor was taken using my mobile phone (My camera's HDR capability is... nonexistent...)
2) The panorama was then loaded into some software called Hugin and stitched together in a Equirectangular projection
3) The projection was then remapped to a stereographic projection at 90 degrees positive pitch
4) ???
5) Profit!

I have a few more of these, done slightly better too, which I will upload soon. This is just one of my favorites, even if it does have a few flaws.
